Danzer Units Helping To Connect The Northern Hub

Modular Buildings, Northern Hub, Network Rail, AV Danzer

In 2015 Danzer was commissioned to provide the on-site welfare and office accommodation facilities for Network Rail’s prestigious Northern Hub project in a contract worth over £700,000.

The 52 units were built to the agreed timescales but due to the numerous project delays and some opposition to the plans only the Bolton phase was initially installed. You can read more about that here.

We held the remaining units in storage at our Langley Mill production facility awaiting the signal from the client, Buckingham Construction, to go ahead with the Ashburys phase.

After the Government finally gave the green light for the Northern Hub project to continue we were able to release the remaining modules and have this month installed them at Ashburys in East Manchester. The units are end and side linked and sited in a double stack of 13 ground floor units and 13 first floor and will provide office facilities for the construction teams.

The first floor accommodation provides office space, meeting rooms, a server room, print room and reception area. On the ground floor facilities include a canteen, meeting rooms, locker room, kitchen and toilets and washrooms.

The units it will be on site for the duration of the Northern Hub project which is likely to take 2 to 3 years to complete.

The Northern Hub project is a series of upgrades to the railway across the north of England which will allow hundreds more trains to run each day and provide space for millions more passengers a year.

OpenSpace Specified As On-Site Contractor Accommodation For Wates’ Great Malvern Retirement Village

Wates Red Rock Stockport

In another great project for Wates Construction AV Group has been commissioned to provide on-site contractor accommodation during the construction of a magnificent new retirement village in Worcester.

We have installed eighteen 9.7m x 3m OpenSpace modules which will provide canteen, relaxation areas, toilets, washrooms and changing facilities for the extensive team of contractors and sub-contractors.

Our OpenSpace product was specified yet again by Wates because it is specifically designed to provide fast, efficient, open plan spaces which can be on site and operational within just days of ordering.

Wates Construction is delivering the £27m project to create the Ellerslie Retirement Village for Audley Retirement Villages. The new village will be constructed on landscaped parkland at the former site of the Hillstone School and will comprise the development of 101 one, two and three bedroom properties.

Wates Red Rock Stockport

The project, will also include the sensitive restoration of two Victorian buildings: Ellerslie House which will boast a luxury health facility called Audley Club, whilst Ellerslie Lodge will be expertly converted into luxury apartments. The Ellerslie mansions were built in 1855 and were visited by key figures such as Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale who visited the historic spa town of Great Malvern seeking the Victorian’s favourite water cure treatment. They later became a preparatory school for girls in the 1920s before becoming part of the prestigious Malvern College.

Brooklands Sand and Aggregates Specifies Danzer For Quarry Office Project

Brooklands Sand, AV Danzer Modular Building

Danzer has recently installed new office accommodation for Brooklands at its Littlejohns pit in St Austell, Cornwall. Dubbed Cornwall’s White Mountains because the of china clay production, the St Austell quarry is on one of the highest points in Cornwall and is exposed to high winds which made this project quite a challenging installation.

We built four 12x3m modules at our Langley Mill site which together creates a 24x6m office facility to house the weighbridge operatives.

We had to plan the delivery and installation some three weeks in advance because it was necessary to block the site access to lift the new buildings into place. The careful planning and inevitable disruption meant that we could not let the weather influence our lifting plans on the day!

Four articulated wagons, one with an 80 tonne/metre lifting hiab arrived on site just as the winds started to pick up which meant we had to move really quickly to lift the units carefully into place. Luckily our skillful team were able to beat the elements and complete the job safely in the nick of time.

Commenting on the job Danzer’s Bill Holloway said: “The weather forecast was not looking good, but due to the scheduling, we had to go for it. Both our transport and installation teams worked extremely hard on the day in worsening conditions and my thanks goes to them for a job well done.

“We stayed on site for a week after installation to connect electrics, finish the internal fit out, install air conditioning and fit carpets. Within the week the weighbridge team was installed in its new office.”

Brookland Sand & Aggregates Ltd is working with Imerys Minerals at the Littlejohns Quarry, processing sustainable secondary sand and aggregates from “Stent”, a by product of china clay production.

Brooklands is the latest in a series of installations Danzer has completed in the quarrying sector. We recently installed a number of units at sites across the north for Booth Ventures which you can read about here.

New schools for Nottingham

Nottingham Schools AV Danzer

Danzer continues to go from strength to strength with over £1.5m of orders received in a three week period last month. This is down to a remarkable effort from the whole team here at Langley Mill, who go out of their way to delight our clients and keep the production process rolling.

Our latest commission is by contractor GF Tomlinson to provide modular units for two schools in the East Midlands.

The first building is for Lantern Lane Primary School in Loughborough and is a 17 module construction which create 361 m2 of additional space at a cost of £474,000. It includes four new classrooms, toilets ad wash facilities, offices, a kitchen and plant room. It has been commissioned as part of an investment programme by Nottinghamshire County Council to create additional classroom space at the popular school.

The second building is for Radcliffe-on-Trent Infant and Nursery School on Bingham Road, Nottingham.

This building comprises 9 modules with a total footprint of almost 242m2 at a cost of £312,000. It will include a free flow area for 90 children as well as WCs and kitchen areas and a plant room.

Both buildings are under construction at our Langley Mill facility and are scheduled for delivery and installation in August. They will be fully operational before the start of the new school year, providing low-cost, functional space which will last each school indefinitely. GF Tomlinsons, will be carrying out all groundworks and mains services whilst our tem will oversee the installation.

Once again the building is part of the Nottinghamshire County Council basic needs classroom programme.

Joint Effort For Danzer and AV Group at Kirkstall Forge

Kirkstall Forge AV Danzer

Danzer and AV Group often work together on projects and this contract at Kirkstall Forge in Leeds for Wates Construction was no exception.

Between the two companies we have built, delivered and installed all of the site accommodation units for Wates’ extensive construction team and subcontractors. We are putting 16 units on phase 1 of the scheme, 4 more on phase 2, bringing together a total of twenty which will be double stacked. We also installed a viewing platform to give clear views right across this huge development site.

Danzer manufactured the units, our Health and Safety expert James Kelly undertook a complete risk assessment on the installation and the AV Group installation team of Andrew Little, Josh Berry and Alec Pattinson made sure they were correctly delivered, sited and functioning.

Commenting on the Health and Safety assessment James Kelly said: “We undertook a site visit to audit the team’s performance and ensure they were working safely at all times. Part of the audit includes testing new procedures, equipment and techniques, such as working at height, and making sure all equipment is correctly tethered to the individual. We were also assessing the clients on the induction they gave our team and as you would expect of a company like Wates they were meticulous.”

Kirkstall Forge is a £300m regeneration masterplan which is being delivered by Commercial Estates Groups and built by Wates. Work began in the New Year and it will transform a 23 hectare brownfield site into a thriving community space which offers new homes, offices, restaurants, a gym, crèche and other facilities. Some 2,400 new jobs are expected to be created as a result and the £300 million overall scheme will enable almost 10,000 people to live and work on the site by 2020.

The first phase of the scheme is a 167,200 sq ft, 7 storey office building which forms phase one of the development.
