New modular classroom for Albion School

Not content with building a superb new classroom last year for Albion School in Southwark we were commissioned this summer to build and install a temporary facility for the children to start using immediately to absorb a larger intake. We handed over the finished building this week and it will then be used as a decant facility when the old school is demolished and rebuilt, work which will commence next year.

The production team at Danzer Limted built the 14 modules at our facility in Nottingham in just eight weeks. On site the modules have been stacked 7 on 7 to provide a total of 400 sq metres of teaching and administration space. The building will be on site for around 3 years while the building work takes place.

The ground floor space will be used by the school as a multi purpose, open plan area which will serve as a temporary canteen and will include large cupboards for storing the canteen furniture. The school will also be able to use the space as an area for assemblies, perfomances or as a gym for PE classes. The first floor will provide a double classroom and staff office.

It took only two weeks for us to complete and install the building. A further week was added to the programme while we incorporated an extension to the office area at the request of the headmistress, Mrs Penny White. The extension expands the office space over the internal stairwell which maximizes every inch of available space and means that the school can now accommodate 5 staff in the space as opposed to the original 3.

Extra attention has been paid to the finishes on the building with the walls clad in 15mm plasterboard and finished in a neutral Magnolia paint. We have fitted suspended ceilings to the class rooms and added Polysafe safety flooring throughout in Nordic Grey.

The exterior is clad with Steni aggregate boarding in Sahara Beige. We have included polyester powder coated aluminium external doors and windows which are both durable and lightweight. The installation team undertook all of the associated ground works including building timber ramps and steps, and an external canopy to provide shelter as students and staff enter and exit the building.
