Piece Hall, Halifax receives £250k injection

Piece Hall

The multi-million pound project to revamp the Piece Hall in Halifax has received a £250,000 injection

AV Group is delighted to be involved with helping Graham Construction transform this unique site in Halifax into a thriving visitor attraction. We have installed 10 welfare units for Graham Construction’s contractor team which are lined up proudly against the backdrop of the stunning Italianate Square.

As construction work continues apace there is further exciting news this month that the project has also received a £250,000 injection from the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Garfield Weston is a family-funded, grant-making trust which has been supporting UK charities for over 50 years and this money is supporting the conservation of the Georgian Piece Hall in Halifax.
The Huddersfield Examiner has the full story here.

The building work being carried out by Graham Construction includes major improvements to visitor facilities, including modern granite seating, level access across the courtyard, customer lifts, enhanced lighting and a central space for heritage events, markets and activities.

Shop units are also being upgraded to modern standards, providing high-quality retail and business locations to attract a mixture of shops, cafés, restaurants and commercial tenants. Companies with a strong regional presence, as well as small, independent and creative businesses, are among those expected to be based there, creating local jobs and a vibrant experience for visitors.

We are thrilled to be playing a small part in helping to secure a bright future for this Yorkshire gem!

Welfare units delivered to Piece Hall, Halifax

We have been busy this week installing 10 welfare units for Graham Construction at the remarkable Piece Hall in Halifax.

Graham has been appointed by Calderdale Council to undertake the construction work to transform this historic building, creating a new, state-of-the-art Central Library and Archive in the town centre which will open in spring 2016.

A long standing client of AV Group’s, we were delighted to be commissioned to provide the on-site accommodation for the team and contractors. The units have been installed in a linear layout which suits the incredible Italianate Square within which they sit.

The units will provide contractor welfare facilities including office space, meeting rooms, drying rooms and toilets. The units, which are sprayed in Graham’s corporate colours, have been stacked 2 high and are connected by an external landing and stairs. As the Council offices directly overlook the site we also sprayed the roofs to reduce the visual impact of the units.

When they were appointed by Calderdale Council Gary Hughes, Regional Director at Graham Construction, said: “The Piece Hall is a historic and much-loved building which is part of the fabric of Halifax. The refurbishment will therefore be extremely sensitive to its heritage.

Piece Hall to be restored, refurbished and conserved.

“Graham Construction is tremendously proud to be playing such a major part in this keenly anticipated facility. We share the vision of our project partners to see the Piece Hall caringly restored so it may continue to play a practical, sustainable and interactive role for current and future generations.”

The Piece Hall transformation project is being funded by Calderdale Council and a £7million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Grade I Listed building will be refurbished and conserved, creating a 21st century heritage visitor attraction, with a state-of-the-art interpretation and learning centre, a new east extension and a redesigned courtyard. The New Central Library and Archive will be wholly funded by the Council. It will be a striking building which provides state-of-the-art facilities for the community, supporting the Piece Hall transformation and helping to create an improved pedestrian route from Halifax train station to the town centre. Peel Park Campus topped out

The development of the University of Salford’s Peel Park campus has reached a milestone with a topping out ceremony for the £81m project.

Graham Construction has completed the steel frameworks for the site which will consist of nine blocks ranging from five to nine storeys. We reported this project here, back in February.

Peel Park will provide a total of 1,387 new bed spaces across two separate sites.

Graham Construction started work on the project in November 2013 as part of the Salford Villages Consortium.

This includes Graham Investment Projects, Campus Living Villages, Equitix and Kier Project Investment, who have jointly invested and developed the property with the project finance being provided by Standard Life Investments.

The site is expected to be open by September 2015.
