Largest ever order helps laboratory rise from the ashes

Harlan Laboratories

Following a devastating fire in 2013 Danzer has helped International Laboratory Services (ILS), a leading food and pharmaceutical research company based in Derby, to rise from the ashes.

In what has been our biggest single commission to date we have provided no fewer than 64 LinkPak steel and timber modules to create a 48m x 33m building. The new state-of-the-art research facility opened last year and was instrumental in helping the firm to get back up to full operational speed as swiftly as possible.

The client’s requirement for a peripheral corridor running around the facility and half glazed interior partitioning to create different lab spaces was readily accommodated by redesigning LinkPak system’s steelwork.

We manufactured and delivered the units from our Langley Mill factory in Nottingham in four phases – supplying 16 modules with each phase. Our installation team handled the fitting of doors, trims and fixings on site, including making sure the exterior Steni Brick cladding lined up perfectly – a challenging task on a build of this scale. Fittings such as autoclaves, incubators and extraction facilities were installed by specialist companies.

The completed structure is predominantly a laboratory facility with some sound-proofed office accommodation also included. A roof top plant room was also added to the design and we included a steel access ladder and door out onto the roof for easy maintenance since all air conditioning, plant extraction systems and other facilities serving the laboratories were all installed on the roof.

We added some nice design touches such as an Oak portcullis-style entrance door as well as recessed porches and canopies to provide shelter in poor weather.

Commenting recently in the Derby Telegraph ILS Operations Director Lorraine Bater explained how a high-risk strategy of sub-contracting work to the competition helped the firm to limit losses to 20% after the fire. She said: “The only thing we could do was to sub-contract out the work. We’re no longer using portable buildings and we are now able to focus on the next process which is to get our clients back. We’ve been in touch with them all and there is no indication that they won’t return.”

So a real Phoenix from the flames story for ILS which is great to hear.

New training facility for London Underground

Tubelines Cockfosters

At Cockfosters in London we have completed and handed over a £125,000 permanent on-site staff training facility for Tubelines (the trading name of London Underground).
The four 9.4m x 3m LinkPak modules have been double-stacked, to provide an open plan office space and toilet facilities on the ground floor connected by an internal staircase to an open plan training area above.

See our earlier article back in July with all the details of this super little project. We think it looks just great nestled into the embankment and will be a great place for staff to train.

Danzer Limited Completes Largest Ever Modular Installation

The company’s biggest single commission to date was completed recently and installed in Shardlow, Derbyshire.

Featuring our LinkPak steel and timber modular product, no fewer than sixty four 33m x 48m modules make up this substantial building which will provide laboratory space for a food processing company. The building replaces one which had previously been fire damaged, was towards the end of its lifespan and was no longer fit for purpose.

The laboratory team themselves undertook all of the technical fittings such as autoclaves, incubators and extraction facilities.

The completed structure is predominantly a laboratory facility under a ridged roof, with some sound-proofed office accommodation included. A roof top plant room was also added to the design to take care of systems such as heating, aircon and fume extraction and we included a steel access ladder and door out onto the roof for easy maintenance.

We added some nice design touches such as an Oak portcullis-style entrance door as well as recessed porches and canopies to provide shelter in poor weather.

Given the size of this order and the current strength of our order book we are investing in a brand new steel processing facility at Langley Mill so we can produce even bigger and more complex installations in years to come.

Linkpak units on top for London Underground

July sees Danzer Limited beginning installation of a £125,000 permanent on-site staff training facility for Tubelines – the trading name of London Underground – at its Cockfosters Depot in North London.

The four 9.4m x 3m LinkPak modules will be double-stacked, to provide an open plan office space and toilet facilities on the ground floor connected by an internal staircase to an open plan training area above.

Our team is working hard to get this facility installed for the middle of July and the process is taking slightly longer than usual as London Underground applies rigorous health and safety standards to all its operations whether trackside or not.

Our installation team has been quick to adopt these additional H&S requirements as we undertake the installation and it should be up and operational in just a few weeks.

AV Group unveil new modular building

New AV Group office in Denton

Watch this space…
AV Group are set to unveil new modular building accommodation
We cleared our desks, packed our bags, unplugged our computers and waved goodbye to our modular buildings on Windmill Lane a few weeks ago. They have served us well, but like any older building they were beginning to look a bit jaded around the edges so we decided it was time to treat ourselves to what we do best for our clients – a brand new modular workspace with the highest quality finishes and facilities – new workspaces, new loos, new meeting rooms and a new kitchen.
We’ve included rainwater harvesting so we can wash our vehicles and hire units and we are especially looking forward to a cosy Winter 2013 with the extra insulation and double glazing.

Now we are putting the finishing touches to our brand new home here at our Denton HQ and can’t wait to show you the final results. Pictures coming very soon….

Northaw School chooses modular building solution for extra space

Northaw Church of England School modular building contract

Northaw Church of England School is part of the Diocese of St Albans and is located in a rural village just outside Potters Bar.

This spring Danzer Ltd has manufactured and installed a 4 module Linkpak NG building. This provides an additional 69m2 teaching area as well as WC and disabled toilet facilities and a sliding partition which allows the space to be divided at a moment’s notice.

The school required a practical solution to create the new flexible teaching space and the market-leading Linkpak NG product, which is fully compliant with building regulations, was commissioned. As it is manufactured off site it provided a speedy build programme for the school. The new building features a host of energy saving devices to improve efficiency and reduce running costs including double glazing and CFC free wall insulation.

The building was also designed to be as sympathetic to the rural surroundings as possible and features details such as Boston Brick Red external cladding in fine grade aggregate panels.

Access to the site was tight and so the installation team had to “park” part of the building at South Mimms services and then ferry them section by section on to site. The unit also needed to be transferred across a block paved yard and so a cushioned underlay was placed under trackway to avoid any damage to the paving.

The building took three weeks to be manufactured off site before being installed in just ten days.

AV Group supporting The Africa Trust

We at the AV Group and Danzer Limited are aware that keeping our staff members hydrated will aid them to perform at their very best throughout the work day. As a result, we decided to invest in water coolers from AquAid – our unique relationship with AquAid has also given our company the opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Our decision to install a water cooler from AquAid means that for each one of the machines that we have, we have donated £20 per year per cooler to The Africa Trust.

Through our contributions to The Africa Trust, an ‘Elephant Pump’ is being installed in Africa on our behalf. This pump will bring much needed, clean, fresh drinking water and improve the quality of life of those who will have access to our well.

Our company’s name will be displayed proudly on our well and we look forward to adding some photos and letters of thanks from the villages to our site in the near future.

AquAid, along with their sister company Perfect Printer Cartridges have to date donated over 6 Million Pounds to Charity. www.aquaid.co.uk
