Danzer Units Helping To Connect The Northern Hub

In 2015 Danzer was commissioned to provide the on-site welfare and office accommodation facilities for Network Rail’s prestigious Northern Hub project in a contract worth over £700,000.

The 52 units were built to the agreed timescales but due to the numerous project delays and some opposition to the plans only the Bolton phase was initially installed. You can read more about that here.

We held the remaining units in storage at our Langley Mill production facility awaiting the signal from the client, Buckingham Construction, to go ahead with the Ashburys phase.

After the Government finally gave the green light for the Northern Hub project to continue we were able to release the remaining modules and have this month installed them at Ashburys in East Manchester. The units are end and side linked and sited in a double stack of 13 ground floor units and 13 first floor and will provide office facilities for the construction teams.

The first floor accommodation provides office space, meeting rooms, a server room, print room and reception area. On the ground floor facilities include a canteen, meeting rooms, locker room, kitchen and toilets and washrooms.

The units it will be on site for the duration of the Northern Hub project which is likely to take 2 to 3 years to complete.

The Northern Hub project is a series of upgrades to the railway across the north of England which will allow hundreds more trains to run each day and provide space for millions more passengers a year.

Government’s plans for Northern Hub take the next step towards delivery

HS2 Northern Hub

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin last week confirmed that the government is forging ahead on high-speed rail links which will help to create the much discussed Northern Powerhouse. He also pledged that the north will soon be empowered to shape its own future, by devolving power away from Whitehall, a lead which is being taken by our home City of Manchester.

Mr McLoughlin said that by the autumn, Transport for the North (TfN) – the body established by the government to work with it on delivering a Northern Transport Strategy – will have a new independent chair to speak on behalf of the north with one voice on delivering improved train and bus services, rolling out smart ticketing, looking after passengers, reducing road congestion and speeding up links to ports and airports.

He also confirmed that work is also well underway on developing plans for the high-speed east-west rail links adding that £13 billion government funding would be invested to transform transport infrastructure in the north over the next five years . You can read more about his speech here.

Part of this investment is the £85m Ordsall Chord rail link for which we are providing site accommodation facilities in a joint venture with Skanska and BAM.

We are delivering 52 steel Open Space units to sites at at Ashburys and Bolton which will be end-linked and sited in a double stack of 13 ground floor units and 13 first floor and will provide office facilities for the delivery teams. The Bolton units have already been sited and the ones for Ashbury are ready for installation this coming Autumn. You can read more about our work with Skanska and BAM here. This is a prestigious contract for Danzer and we are very proud to be involved with the creation of this strategic rail link for the North.

The infrastructure investment plan aims to end decades of economic gap between the north and south through billions of pounds of transport investment. Mr McLoughlin said that boosting growth in the north, rebalancing the economy and creating a Northern Powerhouse were a vital part of the UK’s long-term economic plan.

Supporting the £85m Northern Hub

Skanska Bam Northern Hub

With news that Manchester’s £85m Ordsall Chord railway project has finally been given the go-ahead we are delighted to announce that Danzer is providing the on-site welfare and office facilities for this prestigious project in a contract worth over £700,000.

This strategically important northern rail link has been in the pipeline for many years but the Transport Secretary has now issued a Transport and Works Act Order, with minor modifications, which paves the way to link Victoria, Oxford Road and Piccadilly stations for the first time.

Network Rail has been working on the designs of the scheme with a joint venture between Skanska and Bam Nuttall under an ECI arrangement. You can read more about it here.

Our production team at Langley Mill is working at full speed to build the 52 steel Open Space units which will be used on two sites at Ashburys and at Bolton. The units will be end-linked and sited in a double stack of 13 ground floor units and 13 first floor and will provide office facilities for Skanska/BAM.

The first floor accommodation will provide office space, meeting rooms, a server room, print room and reception area. On the ground floor facilities will include a canteen, meeting rooms, locker room, kitchen and toilets and washrooms.

The units it will be on site for the duration of the project which is likely to take 2 to 3 years.

This is a prestigious contract for Danzer and we are very proud to be involved with the creation of this strategic rail link for the North.
