BAM Construction, Modular Building in Clan Clwyd as Patient Record Storage
BAM Construction are carrying out extensive works at Clan Clwyd Hospital part of which is a total refurbishment of their patient record store. A medium term solution was required and BAM turned to Danzer to help them. Danzer provided a single storey record facility with some additional offices at first floor.
The ground the unit was being placed on, slopes dramatically so extensive foundation had to be installed to take the weight of the building ,with the documents in, and to ensure it remained flat to allow the rolling archive system to operate. The restricted space also lead to a complicated ramp and staircase to enable access.

BAM Aintree Project, Triple Storey Modular Building
BAM are carrying out extensive development work at Aintree and as part of that development are knocking down and removing an old modular building which provided office accommodation for the consultants and some administrative staff. A site within the Aintree complex was allocated and BAM turned to Danzer to come up with a solution.
The new building would need to connect with an existing building at height to provide access to the second floor. However the floor levels did not meet requiring a “filler” level, in the new building, something other manufacturers were unable to provide.
Danzer provided the building using its Steel OpenSpace product with 15no 9.6 x 3m modules over 2 floors and an intermediate filler level. The building also included an enclosed staircase and a canopy walkway across part of the front and the side elevation to enable access to the existing building at ground floor level.

Canary Wharf Modular Building Project

These cabins were delivered from both Langley Mill and Essex depots and successfully installed on to a particularly restrictive site at Canary Wharf, London over two days without a hitch. Careful co-ordination, professionalism and an eye for detail were a necessity to making this work.

Our client, Byrne Brothers, are constructing the concrete core for another 30 storey office tower on the Wharf. The inter-linked units will provide welfare facilities for over 250 contractors during concrete core and initial steel framing phase of the works. Byrne were very impressed with both the quality of the units and the ease in which were installed.

We had two clients on this particular project : Byrne Bros. concrete core (AV Danzer also had units on hire to Byrne at the ‘Shard’ tallest tower in Europe project) and Canary Wharf Group PLC. This particular project is a new 20 storey, 500,000 sq ft tower in the heart of Canary Wharf, 25 Churchill Place.

The initial cabins were installed for Byrne Bros as a triple stack, end on end linked 32x10s for use as welfare facilities. Byrne Bros employed AV Danzer because we had the flexibility in our product to combine OpenSpace units with end-on-end linked cabins to fit within a very small footprint on site. No other supplier could provide this for them. Also we were able to turn around in less than 3 weeks from receipt of order. The units were installed using a 120 tonne crane.

Normally on projects such as this, located next to the docks, Canary Wharf Group provide their contractors with pre-existing site accommodation on a raft moored adjacent to the site. However, because the 2012 Olympics will be using the docks to moor yachts for the rich and famous, this was not a possible, hence their call to us for assistance.

Byrne Bro’s client Canary Wharf Group PLC were so impressed with our performance on the initial phase that they directly contracted us to supply additional units which we skated in to the basement.

Mayfield School

Mayfield Primary School Modular Building Project

Working in conjunction with main contractors E C Harris, Danzer supplied a Linkpak modular building providing a double classroom with wc facilities (156m2) for Mayfield Primary School in Hanwell.

The building was finished in Swedish green fine grade aggregate panelling with UPVC double glazed windows, grey glazing and the striking feature of an arched panel over the main window which enhanced the appearance of the building and blended with Mayfield.

The main entrance has white powder coated aluminium double doors with protective canopy over.

The school were involved in the project every step of the way choosing all the finishes including the interior colour scheme even down to the toilet cubicles!

Ever mindful of costs and the environment PIR lighting controls were incorporated in to the building with exterior lighting by photocell programmable timer.

Modern educational demands were reflected in the data cabling and interactive white boards were fitted to both classrooms . And for added safety fire and intruder alarms were fitted and linked to back to the main school systems.

The project went well, completed on time, and handed over on 27 June 2011. The letter of thanks received from the Belinda Ewart and Denise Maloney, Head Teacher and Head of Finance respectively was the cherry on the cake of this particular project.

AV and the COMIC RELIEF TREK

When Comic Relief were thinking about their big fund raising adventure for this years appeal they decided a trek across Northern Kenya would provide an excellent challenge to the group of celebrities who had volunteered to be involved.

So Comic Relief contacted Dan Holloway, AV Group’s director of its Southern activities, and asked him to become involved in planning and organising the route!

Dan has travelled extensively in Africa and particularly in the area of Kenya Comic Relief were interested in highlighting. So with his colleague Carls at ‘Wandering Nomads’, Dan planned a route and carried out the community liaison prior to the big Comic Relief Trek.

Dan ensured all the tents, camels. guides and base camp were all set up and organised in advance of the Comic Relief BBC and Celebs arriving in Kenya. Dan then became one of the Trek members, Dermot O’Leary described him as “one of their life savers”, cooking the meals for the whole party, and bringing up the rear to ensure everyone stayed on track.

These photos show Dan and his group during the investigative visit to Kenya establishing the route of the trek as well as some taken during the Comic Relief trek itself.
