Team Effort Sees Fast Track Growth For AV Danzer

AV Danzer People

Both Danzer and AV Group have delivered really strong performances this year so we thought a quick round up and a big thank you was due to all of our wonderful staff!

AV Group has reported a record year for profit and growth with an 18% increase in profit in the year to September 2015, with turnover up to £6.8m from £5.8m. Turnover for Danzer in the last financial year field was £5.380m with profits forecast this year at £420k. In May alone we received orders exceeding £1.5m for Danzer which is fantastic news and down to the huge efforts made by our team.

In June we were shortlisted in the Derby Telegraph Business of the Year Awards for Excellence in Manufacturing and came runners-up which was a fantastic achievement. In Manchester we have also been shortlisted by the judges in the Manchester Evening News Business of the Year Awards and we will know more about that in the Autumn.

Director Helen Scott was also invited to represent Danzer Limited by taking part in a Family Business round table discussion which appears in the latest Midlands Business Insider Magazine.

Our export business continues to grow with new phases of the Iron Mountain project now installed in Helsinki and our steel sales, rental and modular building orders continue to go from strength to strength. We now have 26 staff working for AV Group and 51 for Danzer and everyone of them has played a significant role in helping to achieve the growth we have seen in the last few years.

The Directors would like to thank everyone for their continued hard work and to welcome some of our latest recruits.

David Lear is our new Production Manager at Langley Mill who joined us this year and is doing a fantastic job in keeping everything moving and ensuring we deliver our orders on time and without a hitch.

We have also welcomed new steel estimator Daniel Chatfield to the team and Martin Smith who joined as our Modular Estimator. Daniel will be concentrating on our Protecta and Openspace quotes as well as supporting the modular estimating and office team at Langley Mill. We have also appointed our first ever full time electrician at Denton, so a big welcome to Jack Cox.

As the team continues to expand we have also appointed Angela Bloomfield as HR officer helping on all staff and employment matters and Amanda Caddick has joined us in the positon of credit controller.

Also joining us this year are Henry Nash, Stephen Gervin and Daniel Rook who all run our Denton yard so capably. Josh Berry is our trainee installation operative and of course our Health and Safety Expert James Kelly who represented us so ably at the Houses of Parliament recently.

Supporting Local Young People at Stamford Lake

We have recently provided a great little 9ft x 24 ft changing room facility to a wonderful project here in Tameside which helps to change negative behaviour and raise aspirations in people who are not in Education, Employment or Training. The new building was tricky to site but in now in pride of place overlooking the lake.

North Outdoor Interventions (NOI) runs an outdoor activity centre at Stamford Park Lake providing local young people with valuable work placement experiences and trainings.

The project offers the following educational progressions for the young people who attend:
• Outdoor Leadership Award (Enrichment sessions)
• Much need local work placements
• Personal Social Development/Information Advice Guidance (SKILLS FOR LIFE)
• Place to come and chill out and be safe

Commenting on the commission NOI’s Shaun McCarthy said: “The new facility will help us to develop the centre further and provide more opportunities for local young people. I was delighted with the service from AV Group as we really do not have the budget to commission something like this and for it not to be right first time. It wasn’t easy getting the unit in as we had to lift it from the roadside down a steep embankment but Andrew Little and his team managed it somehow and I’m looking forward now to our visitors being able to use it this Summer.”

NOI is registered with The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and provides a wide range of activities across the North West including: windsurfing, Kayaking, open canoeing, improvised rafting, rock climbing, abseiling, gorge scrambling, hill walking and mountaineering, mountain biking, archery, bushcraft, orienteering, camping, navigation, multi-activity and team-building activities.

Manchester City Football Academy Launches To International Acclaim

We are over the blue moon to have been involved with the development of Manchester City’s amazing new youth development and first team training centre – the City Football Academy (CFA) – which was opened this week by former manager and captain, Tony Book.

AV Group was contracted by BAM Construction Ltd back in 2012 to provide top-of-the-range site accommodation for contractors and subcontractors during the build phase, including the provision of a Visitor Centre and viewing facility. Visitors from schools, local residents and colleges were able to see for themselves, throughout the build phase, how work was progressing on this world-class sports facility. To read more about that click here

We provided 64 units which formed the welfare centre for BAM’s team. Later this week we will be removing the units but work has been delayed until the high winds die down due to the enforcement of our strict health and safety guidelines. We will report further next week on how we undertook the task safely given the challenging conditions.

The creation of City Football Academy has transformed an 80–acre brownfield site, adjacent to the Etihad Stadium. The launch was overseen by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, who said: “I am a strong believer in improving sporting facilities for young people, which is why I am delighted to oversee the opening of the City Football Academy. The partnership between Abu Dhabi United Group and Manchester City Council is a benchmark for public private partnership, driving investment into the North of England and developing projects where business and the community benefit.”

Our Visitor Centre, and contractors accommodation can be seen in the photo above – the red tinted area on the left!

Peel Park Campus topped out

The development of the University of Salford’s Peel Park campus has reached a milestone with a topping out ceremony for the £81m project.

Graham Construction has completed the steel frameworks for the site which will consist of nine blocks ranging from five to nine storeys. We reported this project here, back in February.

Peel Park will provide a total of 1,387 new bed spaces across two separate sites.

Graham Construction started work on the project in November 2013 as part of the Salford Villages Consortium.

This includes Graham Investment Projects, Campus Living Villages, Equitix and Kier Project Investment, who have jointly invested and developed the property with the project finance being provided by Standard Life Investments.

The site is expected to be open by September 2015.

£5m investment in Liverpool school

When Merchant Taylors’ school in Crosby, Liverpool decided to invest £5m in the re-development of the Girls’ Junior and Mixed Infant school they turned to Eric Wright Construction to help deliver the new building. In turn our long standing client Eric Wright, asked AV Group to support the project and provide the usual site accommodation services. We were delighted to help and have supplied six office units which incorporate a canteen, showers and drying rooms, toilet block, office spaces and a conference room.

So far so good, but when the construction team hit the point in the build programme where they had to demolish the existing school kitchen and dining facilities, before building new ones, it left the team needing to find a solution to feed up to 300 children each day in a clean, safe and hygienic space.

We knew that we could very quickly deliver and install a suitable space and supplied four Openspace modules as a temporary dining facility. We upgraded the units to give a completely open area with no support posts. This enabled the dining room to be set up so that the pupils could eat their meals in a fit for purpose environment, not off their knees in a classroom!

Commenting on the instruction Eric Wright project Manager Kevin Burgoyne said: “I always enjoy working with the AV Group team as I know they deliver on time and on target. They really pulled out the stops to provide the temporary dining facility which is perfect. As there are no intermediate walls or supporting columns the space can easily be configured by the staff to accommodate as many pupils as possible. “

He added: “The pupils are extremely excited about the project and were even more so when England Captain Steven Gerrard popped in to sign a steel girder to mark the investment.”

The ongoing two-phase major redevelopment , which began in July 2013, will deliver a two storey extension, forming new classrooms, specialist teaching rooms and offices to enhance the schools’ facilities for the next generation of pupils and is due for completion in early 2015.

More information about Eric Wright’s building programme can be found here.

We’ve invested £1.2m in our modular building UK hire fleet

Helen Scott, Managing Director

The AV Group have invested £1.2m in it’s modular building UK hire fleet recently, and we’ve recruited 16 new staff to help with the surge in demand for our modular buildings.

Denton-based site accommodation company AV Group has invested £1.2m in upgrading its fleet of hire accommodation units. The fleet is being renewed and the oldest units replaced to reflect the requirements of clients and ensure the highest quality standards are maintained.

The investment comes after a strong performance in 2013 which saw AV Group provide on-site accommodation to construction clients including BAM UK, Wates, McLaren, Grahams, Skanska and Eric Wright Group amongst many others.

In 2013 AV Group provided over 1,000 hire units for major construction schemes across the country including the new Graphene Institute in Manchester, McLaren’s £90m mixed-use development in Bromley and BAM’s new Co-operative HQ in Manchester One Angel Square. The swift growth surge has also come from house builders such as Taylor Wimpey, Barratt and Jones Homes who use the firm’s steel anti-vandal cabins on development sites across the country.

The increase in sales in December 2013 alone represented a 15% growth in rental income on the 2012 figures, and is a clear indication that demand for the firm’s products and services has risen as confidence begins to return to the construction sector.

Family-firm AV Group was established in 1986 by John Holloway and today is run by Directors Helen Scott and sons Dan and Bill Holloway. Commenting on the investment Helen Scott said: “The uptake in business has been really encouraging and as such we have taken the decision to make a significant additional investment into our fleet. Our hire business is really picking up as construction firms are moving forward with developing schemes, many of which have been on hold awaiting funding or interest from occupiers and we are really seeing that pick up in the first quarter of 2014.”

AV Group also operates Danzer Ltd, which manufactures the steel hire units as well as creating bespoke modular buildings for schools, colleges and companies.

The firm recently recruited 16 new staff to help with a huge surge in demand for its products, growing from 24 to 40 employees based across its sites in Nottingham and Manchester.

Supporting Prostate Cancer Awareness

Through March and April we are supporting the National Prostate Cancer UK campaign. To kick-start the initiative, we have commissioned specially designed units featuring the charity’s distinctive blue colour and logo which are being delivered to construction firms and house builders across the country. We will be donating one months rental income for all campaign-branded units ordered during March and April.

This week the first blue units have been delivered on-site to construction firms including McGoff and Byrne, Medlock Building and T&B Contractors with more being delivered next week to Thomas Barnes, Taylor Wimpey North Thames, Eric Wright Group and United House.

Commenting on our support for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month AV Group Director Helen Scott said: “The construction industry is still a very male dominated industry and we wanted to play our part in helping to raise awareness of this important disease which kills 10,000 men a year. We will be fundraising at each of our depots in Manchester, Nottingham and Essex and will also be collecting on-site as we deliver units across the country to clients.”

We are also urging all of our employees and clients to undertake the Charity’s Men United test, a campaign to get men to join forces to beat cancer. Spearheaded by comedian Bill Bailey, Men United is five quick-fire questions about prostate cancer to help educate people about the disease.
