Congratulations to Nick Haberle from our Essex depot who has achieved the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Certificate in Managing Safely.
We caught up with Nick to find out what the course was all about and why he decided to take it. He said:
“Although my official title is Yard Manager at the Essex Depot my role is pretty diverse. As well as looking after the cabins, liaising with clients and managing the yard staff I often get involved with Health and Safety matters, but it has always been in an unofficial capacity as our trained H&S team is based in the Northern office.
Until now I hadn’t had a formal qualification in the role but have put to good use my nine or so years of experience in doing this job with AV Group.
Mike Walker and James Kelly, our Health and Safety Team, suggested the course and I was delighted to accept as I knew it would give me some formal training in accident prevention and in establishing safer working practices.
This is a really important element of the firm’s work and Mike and James are rolling out a programme of increased Health and Safety initiatives right across the company to ensure we continue to exceed industry standards.
I took the course locally in Basildon over a four-day period and it covered topics including Risk Management, implementing H&S management systems and policy and the impact of H&S on the environment.
We’re already acting on many of these practices in the Essex depot and will be looking to refine our health and safety approach even further over the coming months.
