The 66 storey skyscraper is the highest of four towers which are being built at Owen Street in the Castlefield area of the city, the others will reach 52, 46 and 39 storeys respectively. When built the 200m tower will be 54m taller than Manchester’s iconic landmark Beetham Tower.
This amazing project will provide 1,508 apartments and penthouses, alongside amenities including lounges, roof garden, swimming pool, indoor tennis court, fully equipped gymnasium, treatment rooms, business facilities, 24/7 concierge and extensive basement parking. You can read more about it here.
Owen Street is the latest Manchester venture by Renaker Build, which is working on multiple sites across the city to deliver 1,600 apartments at Greengate, Cambridge Street, Regent Road and Wilburn Basin.
Over the past three years AVDanzer has provided welfare units at three of the development sites, before being asked to support with more welfare units at Owen Street.
Commenting on how the installation was managed AVDanzer’s Bill Hollloway said: “Over a two-day period in November we re-sited the welfare units which had previously been on site at Cambridge Street to provide the 12 ground floor units. We used a hiab at each end to dismantle and erect the units and had a lorry running between the two sites which are only a few minutes away from each other.
“While these were being sited we completed the manufacture of 12 brand new units at our Langley Mill production facility, which were delivered and installed on days 3 and 4 to form the 2nd floor.
“This provided the Renaker team with enough space for six months but, as work progressed, they needed more room and we moved on to phase 2 of the installation. This saw us re-site a further 12 units from the Wilburn Basin site which is nearing completion.
“Again, these units were delivered and installed over a 2-day period, but this time we had to use a mobile crane to lift the third floor units into place, as the complex was by now completely enclosed with security fencing.
“With the final floor in place we then added a timber viewing platform, which gives amazing views right over the site.”
The internal layout of all of the cabins has also been substantially changed to meet Renaker’s specific requirements. AVDanzer has removed partition walls to create more open spaces and re-arranged the electrics.
As Bill explained: “Because our units are designed to allow total flexibility, this was all done and completed quickly and easily and to the client’s complete satisfaction.”
The complex now provides the following accommodation:
• Ground floor – kitchen, large canteen and drying room
• First floor – open plan office and 4 meeting rooms
• Second floor – open plan office and 4 meeting rooms
• We have also provided separate toilet facilities and a drying room as well as creating a corridor extension to link the main drying room to the new modular facility.
Renaker Management added: “The AVDanzer team relocated the welfare cabins, which we had been using at other Manchester sites, providing an effective solution which meant we did not have to wait long to put in place the facilities we needed.
“Renaker demands the very best facilities for its staff, contractors and sub-contractors and AVDanzer were able to meet the high standard of welfare accommodation which we expect.
“Because the OpenSpace system allows you to easily create wide, open-space offices it means our growing teams can work in comfort alongside each other in a modern, safe and clean environment with access to all the services you would expect such as kitchen areas, drying and changing rooms. We’ve also added high quality outdoor spaces such as the wooden viewing platform and a sheltered seating area outside where people can take their breaks.
“We have been really pleased with the installation and the AVDanzer team who have been working alongside us now for the last 5 weeks to ensure everything is fully functional and working perfectly.”
Overall the complex at Owen Street now comprises a triple stacked arrangement of 36 units which are linked with external staircases. These are likely to remain on site for many years as this landmark development is being delivered over a 5 year period.
