Continuing to expand our reach overseas we have recently delivered a great new installation on the beautiful island of Guernsey.

Guernsey AV Danzer

We were appointed by Wood Environmental and Infrastructure Solutions UK Limited to create a modular Facilities Building for the new waste transfer facility for the island.

Located at Longue Hougue Reclamation Site just outside of the capital at St Peter Port, the building will be used to provide accommodation and welfare facilities for the site operatives and visitors. It will also provide office space for management and administrative staff and will function as a data control centre.

The six unit Linkpak system was built by the team at Langley Mill and we worked with Profreight, one of the few haulage companies based on the island, to arrange the transportation.

Specialists in shipping to the Channel Islands, Profreight undertook all the travel logistics to make sure the units were delivered safely and in good time.

Following production, they were loaded at our depot and transported by road to Portsmouth, then onto the roll-on, roll-off ferry for a 7-hour journey across the Channel to Guernsey. Once on the island they were again transported by lorry to site with wide-load notifications in place to take account of the island’s narrow roadways.

Fortunately, Profreight has a depot close to the waste transfer site so we could safely park the trailers in their compound while we maneuvered each of the units into place.

Although there are not many large equipment providers on Guernsey we were able to secure one of only two cranes on the island which were big enough to lift the units into place.

We also provided an additional unit from our Protecta range as part of the contract which is being used at the site’s weighbridge station. It will provide a secure and functional space for the team to undertake their work weighing and measuring the waste which will be transported through the facility.

Commenting on the project AVDanzer’s Bill Holloway said: “With any overseas job the delivery and transportation needs careful planning and we have yet again worked with extremely experienced contractors to deliver this job safely and on time. The operation went without a hitch and we are grateful to Profreight for their expert guidance and knowledge in helping us execute a seamless delivery plan.”

AVDanzer also needed to arrange work permits for the team because, although Guernsey is a dependency of the British Crown, it does not form part of UK and has its own labour laws.

The team will return in August to oversee and sign off the installation of this exciting project which follows other overseas installations by AVDanzer in Ireland and Finland.
