The recent series of storms that have battered the UK have been extremely challenging for our installation team at the new Canary Wharf Contractors three storey complex in London.
We have supplied a total of 24 portable modular units to them; incorporating offices, toilets, a meeting room, tea station and external staircases. We installed the ground and first floors a few months ago and had been due to install the second floor in late January but storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge had other ideas.
As the ground and first floor were already occupied and being used throughout the working week by Canary Wharf’s staff, site access to deliver the second floor could only be granted on a Saturday. Unfortunately, for five consecutive Saturday’s, despite hauliers and installers being booked to work, our Health and Safety Team had to make the decision to cancel the delivery and craning of the units as wind speeds were forecast to be over the permitted safe limit of 22mph.
Finally, sixth time lucky, we have now been able to deliver and crane the units in and our on-site installers have been able to get to work completing the project. A huge amount of work has had to be completed on-site; with the electrics, fire alarm and air conditioning linked into the existing systems, onsite welding done to strengthen the ground floor corners to take the weight of a triple stack and external staircases extended to be three storeys high.
AVDanzer are proud to be a preferred supplier to Canary Wharf Contractors and pleased to have safely overcome the challenges presented to us by these consecutive storms.
